Taylor Hawkins‘s sonĀ ShaneĀ honored his late father Saturday night (September 3) with a powerful performance with theĀ FOO FIGHTERSĀ at a tribute concert in London.
At the event, which was held at Wembley Stadium,Ā ShaneĀ sat behind the drum kit for a rendition of theĀ FOO FIGHTERS‘ 1997 songĀ “My Hero”.
Prior to the start of the track, images of ShaneĀ and his dad were shown on the screen in the background beforeĀ FOO FIGHTERSĀ frontmanĀ Dave GrohlĀ introduced the young drummer to the audience.
ShaneĀ previously honored the lateĀ FOO FIGHTERSĀ drummer by teaming up with the local bandĀ THE ALIVEĀ to play drums onĀ “My Hero”Ā during a Fourth Of July Laguna Beach block party.
In 2018, ShaneĀ joined his father andĀ GrohlĀ on drums for a cover ofĀ THE ROLLING STONES‘Ā “Miss You”Ā at aĀ CHEVY METALĀ show in 2018.
A number of other musicians from around the world gathered Saturday in support of Taylor, with various artists playing songs fromĀ FOO FIGHTERS‘ vast catalog.
At the start of the event,Ā GrohlĀ paid tribute to his late bandmate, telling the crowd: “Ladies and gentlemen, tonight we’ve gathered here to celebrate the life, the music, and the love of our dear friend, our bandmate, our brotherĀ Taylor Hawkins. For those of you who knew him personally, you know that no one else could make you smile or laugh or dance or sing like he could. And for those of you that admired him from afar, I’m sure you’ve all felt the same thing.”
The concert opened with formerĀ OASISĀ frontmanĀ Liam GallagherĀ performing his band’sĀ “Rock ‘N’ Roll Star”Ā andĀ “Live Forever”, backed by theĀ FOO FIGHTERS. Later,Ā GrohlĀ was seen breaking into tears as he performedĀ “Times Like These”.
HawkinsĀ died in March in Bogota, Colombia due to a reported cardiovascular collapse at the age of 50.
He left behind his wifeĀ Alison HawkinsĀ and three children āOliver Shane, 13-year-oldĀ AnnabelleĀ and 8-year-oldĀ Everleigh.
AEROSMITHĀ played its first concert in more than two and a half years last night (Sunday, September 4) in Bangor, Maine.
