Ozzy OsbourneĀ has released a new single,Ā “Degradation Rules”. The track, which features a guest appearance byĀ Ozzy‘sĀ BLACK SABBATHĀ bandmateĀ Tony Iommi, is taken fromĀ Ozzy‘s new album,Ā “Patient Number 9”, which will arrive on September 9. The LP’s title track, featuring a guest appearance by legendary guitaristĀ Jeff Beck, was made available last month. Artist and comic book creatorĀ Todd McFarlaneĀ directed the music video for the song.

Last year,Ā OzzyĀ toldĀ SiriusXMĀ that the lyrics forĀ “Patient Number 9”, which he co-wrote with producerĀ Andrew Watt, were inspired by his relationship with his wife and manager,Ā Sharon.
“The song is about a mental institution,” OzzyĀ said.
In the track, OsbourneĀ sings: “When they call your name, better run and hide / Tell you you’re insane, you believe their lies / I’m not getting out, no I’m not getting out alive / I’m not getting out, ’cause I’m patient number 9.”
RegardingĀ Beck‘s contribution to the song,Ā OzzyĀ said: “Having someone likeĀ Jeff BeckĀ play on my album is just incredible, a total honor. There’s no other guitar player that plays like him and his solo onĀ ‘Patient Number 9’Ā is just jaw-dropping.”
As for his renewed collaboration withĀ Iommi,Ā OzzyĀ said: “It was really great working withĀ Tony. He’s the riff master. No one can touch him in that respect. I only wish we had these songs forĀ BLACK SABBATH‘sĀ ’13’Ā album.”
“Patient Number 9”Ā includes an appearance byĀ RED HOT CHILI PEPPERSĀ drummerĀ Chad Smith, who played onĀ Ozzy‘s last studio album, 2020’sĀ “Ordinary Man”.
This past March,Ā SmithĀ revealed during an interview with theĀ “Talk Is Jericho”Ā podcast that the newĀ OzzyĀ album would also featureĀ Robert TrujilloĀ (METALLICA) andĀ Duff McKaganĀ (GUNS N’ ROSES).
ChadĀ went on to say that “the English royalty of guitar players” has been recruited to guest onĀ Osbourne‘s new album. “Tony IommiĀ andĀ OzzyĀ have never collaborated outside ofĀ BLACK SABBATH,” he said. “TonyĀ sent us a bunch of riffs and we took what we thought was the best of ’em, which was fucking great. SoĀ Andy‘s on the bass doing fucking great ā the bass on the song is amazing. AndĀ TonyĀ sent us the riffs ā files; he’s in England ā and we played to it. It’s fucking got everything. It’s got all the stuff that you would want.Ā OzzyĀ loves it. And so he’s on that track. ThenĀ Eric ClaptonĀ plays a fucking wah-wahĀ CREAM-type solo. We’re, like, ‘Eric, can you solo on this song? Wah-wah, please.Ā Eric, what do you think about this, with the wah-wah?’ Because that’s his fucking thing. And so he’s soloing all over this other track. ThenĀ Jeff BeckĀ is onĀ twoĀ songs. We tried to getĀ Jimmy PageĀ [LED ZEPPELIN], we tried to get the holy trinity, but I don’t thinkĀ PageĀ plays anymore too much, unfortunately. ButĀ Mike McCready‘s [PEARL JAM] on a track.Ā Josh Homme, my neighbor fromĀ QUEENSĀ [OF THE STONE AGE], solos on a track. And thenĀ Zakk WyldeĀ [BLACK LABEL SOCIETY] is on the record as well, all over it. So it’s like if you’re a guitar player, [it’s] pretty fucking good.”
Last year, OzzyĀ confirmed that 15 songs had been recorded for his follow-up toĀ “Ordinary Man”. In October, he toldĀ Metal HammerĀ magazine that his new album will be “similar in tone toĀ ‘Ordinary Man’, but I can’t describe it completely. I’ve not heard it for a while because it keeps going over to the next person to add their parts ā we’re fucking around with it all the time,” he said.
WattĀ connected withĀ OsbourneĀ after meetingĀ Ozzy‘s daughterĀ KellyĀ at a friend’s party and pitching her on the idea ofĀ Post MaloneĀ andĀ OzzyĀ collaborating together.
In December 2020,Ā WattĀ toldĀ Guitar WorldĀ thatĀ Ozzy‘s next album would feature guest appearances by a number of notable musicians. “There’s a bunch of people involved,” he said. “I can’t say for sure until the end, but I started doing a bunch of basic tracks withĀ ChadĀ andĀ Robert Trujillo, who used to play inĀ Ozzy‘s band. AndĀ Taylor HawkinsĀ [FOO FIGHTERS] also came in and played a bunch on the record as well, which adds a different flair ā it kind of harkened back toĀ Ozzy‘s ’80s era, in a great way. And I think it’s so cool for a rock fan to be able to listen to half an album withĀ Chad SmithĀ on drums, and then you flip it over and you get to hearĀ Taylor Hawkins. And you know, the last album was really special for everyone involved. And so there was no point inĀ OzzyĀ or me doing this again unless we thought we could bring something new to the table. And I feel like we’re achieving that.”
The official music video forĀ "Night Stalkers", a brand new song fromĀ MEGADETH, can be seen below. The track, which features a guest appearance by iconic rapperĀ Ice-T, is taken from the band's sixteenth studio album,Ā "The Sick, The Dying⦠And The Dead!", which will arrive on September 2 viaĀ UMe.
