The official music video forĀ “Night Stalkers”, a brand new song fromĀ MEGADETH, can be seen below. The track, which features a guest appearance by iconic rapperĀ Ice-T, is taken from the band’s sixteenth studio album,Ā “The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!”, which will arrive on September 2 viaĀ UMe.

Created byĀ MEGADETHĀ leaderĀ Dave Mustaine, produced byĀ Rafael Pensado, and directed byĀ Leo Liberti,Ā “Night Stalkers: Chapter II”Ā is the next episode in the multi-chapter saga about the origin of theĀ MEGADETHĀ mascotĀ Vic RattleheadĀ as we continue to follow the tragic events leading to our operative’s complete transformation as he systematically exacts his revenge.

The first song to be released fromĀ “The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!”Ā was the ferocious, quintessentiallyĀ MEGADETHĀ trackĀ “We’ll Be Back”, which was accompanied by the world premiere ofĀ “We’ll Be Back: Chapter I”, an epic, action-packed short film chronicling the origins ofĀ Vic Rattlehead. Produced byĀ Mustaine,Ā “We’ll Be Back: Chapter I”Ā is a soldier’s tale of bravery, personal sacrifice, and the will to survive. It was the first installment of a trilogy of videos to be released in conjunction with the release ofĀ “The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!”

“The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!”Ā consolidates a furious return to form that began with theĀ Grammy-winningĀ “Dystopia”, while pushing forward musically and markingĀ Mustaine‘s recent triumph over throat cancer. Reuniting visionaryĀ MEGADETHĀ leader and sonic architectĀ Dave MustaineĀ with co-producerĀ Chris RakestrawĀ (DANZIG,Ā PARKWAY DRIVE),who together helmed 2016’sĀ “Dystopia”, the album was recorded atĀ Mustaine‘s home studio in Nashville, Tennessee, with guitaristĀ Kiko LoureiroĀ and drummerĀ Dirk Verbeuren. BassistĀ Steve DiGiorgioĀ temporarily stepped in to record the album. With the kick-off ofĀ MEGADETH‘s recent tour,Ā MEGADETHĀ alumnusĀ James LoMenzoĀ rejoined theĀ MEGADETHĀ family as permanent bass player.

Featuring some ofĀ Mustaine‘s strongest songwriting while also incorporating writing from the rest of the band,Ā “The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!”Ā brings together everything that’s exhilarating and distinctive aboutĀ MEGADETH. From the blistering throwback fury ofĀ “Night Stalkers”Ā and first singleĀ “We’ll Be Back”, to the more mid-tempo and melodicĀ “Soldier On!”Ā and the very personal title track, with its enthralling twists and turns.Ā “The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!”Ā also features a cover ofĀ DEAD KENNEDYS‘Ā “Police Truck”Ā andĀ Sammy Hagar‘sĀ “This Planet’s On Fire”, the latter of which includes vocals fromĀ HagarĀ himself.

“The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!”Ā melds the ultra-frenetic riffing, fiercely intricate solos, and adventurous spirit the quartet are known for, all laced with signature virtuosity and precision andĀ Mustaine‘s singular sardonic snarl. This album combines all the crushing musical motifs that have madeĀ MEGADETHĀ both repeat metal disruptors and revered genre flagbearers.

RegardingĀ Hagar‘s contribution toĀ “This Planet’s On Fire”,Ā MustaineĀ toldĀ SiriusXM‘sĀ “Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk”: “It’s a super-heavy song. And the good thing about this [is] we didn’t just do the song; [Sammy] played on it too. So we’ve got a little bit of some guitar; we’ve got a lot of bit of singing. I think it’s super badass.”

As forĀ MEGADETH‘s decision to coverĀ “Police Truck”,Ā MustaineĀ said: “It’s no secret I’m a bigĀ DEAD KENNEDYSĀ fan, and I had wanted to doĀ ‘Holiday In Cambodia’, but my friends inĀ LƄƄZ ROCKITĀ had done that, and I felt that [I would] just let them have their glory off of that rendition of that song, and if the time comes, I’m sure there’s another song that’ll stick out to me. And there was — it was the songĀ ‘Police Truck’. So we recorded that one.”

Earlier this year,Ā MustaineĀ confirmed thatĀ DiGiorgioĀ laid down the bass tracks onĀ “The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!”

DiGiorgioĀ is widely renowned as a pioneer on the fretless bass in heavy metal music, having played withĀ TESTAMENT,Ā DEATHĀ andĀ SADUS, among others. Within his genre,Ā SteveĀ is respected for his playing skills, versatility and incredible technique. He has more than 40 studio album recordings and over 20 years of touring the world.

Last month,Ā MEGADETHĀ announced bass playerĀ James LoMenzoĀ as a permanent member of the band.Ā LoMenzoĀ wasĀ MEGADETH‘s bass player in the mid-2000s and recently stepped back in as a touring member forĀ “The Metal Tour Of The Year”.

In addition toĀ MEGADETH,Ā LoMenzoĀ has played withĀ Ozzy Osbourne,Ā Zakk WyldeĀ andĀ WHITE LION. For the past nine years,Ā LoMenzoĀ has been performing with iconic rockerĀ John Fogerty.

LoMenzoĀ played his first show withĀ MEGADETHĀ in nearly 12 years last August in Austin, Texas. The concert took place three months followingĀ Ellefson‘s dismissal fromĀ MEGADETHĀ after sexually tinged messages and explicit video footage involving him were posted onĀ Twitter.

In June 2021,Ā MustaineĀ announced during an episode of hisĀ Gimme RadioĀ programĀ “The Dave Mustaine Show”Ā thatĀ Ellefson‘s bass tracks would not be used on the newĀ MEGADETHĀ LP.

EllefsonĀ was inĀ MEGADETHĀ from the band’s inception in 1983 to 2002, and again from 2010 until his latest departure.
